"Hand-Loomed to Last a Lifetime"
Since 1974

For many years a small group of expert weavers have been working on our own designs for the Line of the Spirit, Oaxaca collection. These people have been chosen for their high standard of excellence and dependability to produce the desired effect in high quality rugs, wall hangings and pillows for which we are known. These weavings have been featured in many national magazines including Architectural Digest.

Since some of these weavers have additional time apart from producing their pieces for the Line of the Spirit, they have expressed a desire to use their talents and augment their income by working on a body of work through the newly formed cooperative called Dush T-zuniumin Zapotec, or Lo Nuestro in Spanish which translates in English as "that which is ours."

These weavers have joined together, along with our art director and her assistant, to produce a body of work that is based on their own original designs. We meet twice a year to go over the project, launched in 2004. Together we look at individual designs and choose a specific palette of colors hand prepared by the Line of the Spirit dye maker. The art director and her assistant are also involved in an ongoing basis.

This is a new concept in the weaving village, since they are guaranteed a market for their work through La Unica Cosa and Starr Gallery. With a thirty-year history of handling only the finest of Zapotec Indian weavings, we are pleased at the enthusiastic reception this collection has received. It is a welcome addition to our gallery and we look forward to being a part of this project's success. See a video of the weavers here.
